Czech Television has modernised its video streaming workflow by deploying Harmonic’s software-based XOS Advanced Media Processor, bringing transcoding operations in-house as it looks to improve picture quality and increase engagement across its digital platforms.

The public broadcaster said the shift away from outsourced processing gives it greater control over streaming delivery to viewers across mobile, web apps and HbbTV, while also improving operational efficiency and reducing costs.

According to Czech Television, the XOS platform’s AI-powered, content-aware encoding is being used to generate multiple video profiles, alongside support for subtitles and logo insertion for pop-up channels. The broadcaster is also using the system’s audio capabilities to enable descriptive audio mixes for more accessible viewing.

Harmonic said Czech Television is building a cloud-native foundation for streaming and using software-based processing to enhance quality and audio features.

Local partner Smart Informatics supported the deployment.
