TV Republika owner planning Polish MAGA TV

The owner of TV Republika has said he wants to create a continental European counterpart to GB News.

In an interview with Financial Times, Tomasz Sakiewicz said the broadcaster is in talks with US and European investors, with the aim of launching the English-language service in 2026. The backers have not been named, though Sakiewicz described them as well-known in conservative circles and with media experience.

The move would build on Republika’s rapid growth in Poland’s domestic news market since the late-2023 overhaul of public broadcaster TVP under Donald Tusk’s government, which helped drive conservative audiences towards private alternatives.

24-hour news channel TV Republika (Telewizja Republika) launched in 2013 and is seen as a right-wing, Fox News-style broadcaster whose audience surged after the 2023 overhaul of public broadcaster TVP, as conservative viewers migrated to private outlets.

Poland already has an English-language news outlet, TVP World, which public broadcaster TVP relaunched in March 2024 and continues to distribute across streaming and connected TV platforms.
