Access Advance has announced that Hisense Group Holdings has joined the HEVC Advance patent pool as a licensee.

The move gives Hisense a single licence covering access to “tens of thousands” of patents declared essential to implementing the HEVC/H.265 video compression standard, under what Access Advance describes as global FRAND [Fair, Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory] terms.

Access Advance said the agreement followed an extended engagement between the two companies and positions Hisense alongside a run of recent additions and expanded relationships across the Access Advance pools, including Xiaomi, MSI and Transsion, plus broadened arrangements with Huawei, HP and Sharp.

Hisense, headquartered in Qingdao, is one of the world’s largest TV manufacturers, with products sold in more than 160 countries and regions.

Access Advance CEO Peter Moller said Hisense’s participation reflected growing industry recognition that “transparent, efficient licensing solutions” benefit both innovators and implementers across the video technology ecosystem.
