Channel 4 has added UKTV’s U service to its streaming platform, bringing thousands of hours of free UKTV programming to Channel 4 viewers.
UKTV, which uses the U brand, is part of BBC Studios, the commercial arm of the BBC.
The integration means Channel 4 streaming users can watch UKTV originals and a range of BBC catalogue titles, including catch-up and boxsets, alongside Channel 4’s own slate. Channel 4 and UKTV said the move is designed to widen choice and make it easier for audiences to find and binge series in one place.
At launch, the U selection on Channel 4 streaming includes titles such as The Office, Red Dwarf, QI XL, Would I Lie To You? (pictured), Birds of a Feather, Not Going Out, Have I Got A Bit More News For You, Mock The Week, Spooks, Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over, Big Zuu’s Big Eats, David Mitchell’s Outsiders, Whitstable Pearl, The Chelsea Detective and Marlow Murder Club, with more U content due to land in the coming weeks.
Jonathan Allan, interim CEO of Channel 4, said bringing UKTV’s shows onto Channel 4 streaming would deliver “more fantastic choice” and support the broadcaster’s focus on making it easier to watch programmes audiences love.
Marcus Arthur, CEO of UKTV, said making U available via Channel 4 streaming would help UKTV titles reach new audiences, while giving Channel 4 viewers “even more choice”, calling it “the perfect partnership, built on putting viewers first”.
