ULA readies 29 Amazon Leo satellites

The United Launch Alliance (ULA) will use one of its giant Atlas 5 rockets to take 29 Amazon Leo satellites into orbit. The launch window from Florida is 8:52pm until 9:21pm ET on April 27th.

The Atlas V 551 rocket’s first-stage booster does not land on a droneship or landing zone, which is the technique used by SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rockets, but will separate and fall back into the Atlantic Ocean, where it will be picked up.


ULA’s Atlas V 551 rocket plans to take off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station’s Space Launch Complex-41 with the LA-06 mission.

Before the launch, there were 273 Leo satellites in orbit, and Amazon is planning to have more than 3,000 in orbit eventually.
