Sky is seeking up to €1.9 billion in damages from TIM and DAZN over their 2021 Serie A distribution agreement in Italy.
According to Reuters, the claim was lodged with a Milan court in recent weeks and was confirmed by TIM in documents released alongside its first-quarter results.
Sky alleges it suffered losses after TIM and DAZN struck a deal linked to DAZN’s acquisition of Serie A rights for the 2021-2024 cycle. DAZN had secured all Serie A matches in Italy for €2.5 billion before entering into a distribution partnership with TIM.
Italy’s antitrust authority ruled in 2023 that the TIM-DAZN agreement restricted competition, fining TIM €800,000 and DAZN €7.2 million. The ruling became final last year after it was upheld by Italy’s top administrative court, although DAZN’s fine was later reduced to €3.6 million.
Sky is seeking €1.1 billion for alleged lost profits. TIM said the total claim could rise to €1.9 billion once interest and alleged brand devaluation damages are included.
TIM said any compensation, if awarded, would be shared between TIM and DAZN according to criteria yet to be defined.
All parties declined to comment to Reuters. Key hearings are expected in the final quarter of the year.
