German broadcaster RTL Deutschland is strengthening its legal leadership team ahead of the acquisition of pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland, appointing Kristina Freymuth as Deputy General Counsel.

Freymuth, currently General Counsel at Sky Deutschland, will take up the new role once the transaction closes and will report to Ralph Sammeck, General Counsel of RTL Deutschland.

Freymuth brings extensive experience in areas central to the combined business, including pay‑TV models, anti‑piracy measures and the legal management of major rights tenders. She played a key role in Sky’s strategic development and oversaw the antitrust approval process for the takeover of Sky Deutschland (DACH) by RTL Deutschland, contributing to the European Commission’s unconditional clearance.

“With Kristina Freymuth, we are gaining an outstanding lawyer and strategic partner for one of the most significant media projects in Germany. Her comprehensive expertise in pay TV, anti‑piracy and major rights tenders will play a central role in successfully bringing together the strengths of RTL Deutschland and Sky Deutschland and in expanding our business sustainably,” said Andreas Fischer, COO of RTL Deutschland.

Freymuth added: “I am very much looking forward to playing a leading role in the most exciting media project of recent decades. The combination of RTL Deutschland and Sky Deutschland offers a unique opportunity to actively shape the future of the media landscape in Germany and set new standards,” she said.

RTL Deutschland plans to complete the acquisition of Sky Deutschland on 1 June 2026.
