ATSC, Brazil’s SBTVD Forum and Korea’s Telecommunications Technology Association have signed a memorandum of understanding to support cooperation on next-generation terrestrial broadcasting standards.
The agreement creates a framework for collaboration on the development, harmonisation and global promotion of advanced broadcast technologies, including ATSC 3.0 and related IP-based broadcast-broadband systems.
The MoU was signed in Seoul on May 12 and covers standards development, recommended practices, testing and certification, technical information exchange and coordinated industry engagement.
The three organisations will also hold regular coordination meetings around major industry events including NAB Show, KOBA and SET Expo.
Madeleine Noland, president of ATSC, said the agreement creates “a stronger foundation for interoperable next-generation broadcasting technologies” across North America, South America and Asia.
Raymundo Barros, president of the SBTVD Forum, said a harmonised standards ecosystem would support innovation and create new opportunities for broadcasters and technology providers.
TTA president Seunghyun Son said closer cooperation between standards organisations was essential to global compatibility and sustainable industry growth.
The agreement is intended to reduce market fragmentation, support economies of scale for manufacturers and accelerate innovation in immersive media, emergency information, targeted services, datacasting and mobile reception.
