Movistar Plus has reorganised its management structure under new CEO Alfonso Gómez Palacio, creating separate divisions for content and sport.

Juan Andrés García Ropero, known as Bropi, will lead the content division, overseeing films, series, documentaries, entertainment formats and in-house production.

The content operation will be divided into 4 units: Movistar Plus Originals, led by Bruna Hernando; Spanish Cinema, led by Guillermo Farré; Editorial Development and Acquisitions, led by Iñigo Trojaola; and Entertainment, led by Hugo Tomás.

Enric Rojas will continue to lead Business Management and Sports, maintaining oversight of one of Movistar Plus’ main competitive strengths in Spain.

The restructure comes shortly after Gómez Palacio succeeded Daniel Domenjó as CEO. Gómez Palacio previously held senior Telefónica roles in Latin America, including leading Telefónica Hispanoamérica.

Movistar Plus said it added 86,000 net customers in Q1, taking its paying subscriber base to 3.9 million.

The platform is also backing all three Spanish films in competition for the Palme d’Or at Cannes, including Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s The Beloved, Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo’s La bola negra, and Pedro Almodóvar’s Bitter Christmas.

Gómez Palacio said Movistar Plus was entering “a new stage” focused on growth, investment in content and improved entertainment services for customers.
