The DVB Project has approved a major package of specification updates centred on DVB-I, its standard for discovering television services across broadcast, broadband and hybrid networks.
The revised specifications introduce a comprehensive security framework for DVB-I for the first time, including certificate management, content authentication and protection for service lists. Other new features include improved DRM support, simplified IPTV service discovery, support for portrait-format graphics on mobile devices and enhanced streaming analytics.
The updates also include new implementation guidelines, revised accessibility signalling, enhancements to interactive applications and TV-Anytime, plus an updated DVB-DASH streaming specification to improve interoperability and native DRM support.
The new specifications have been published as DVB BlueBooks and will now be submitted to ETSI for standardisation, with some undergoing further verification before becoming formal standards.
At the same meeting, Remo Vogel of Germany’s rbb/ARD was re-elected as Chair of the DVB Project, continuing in the role he first took up in 2024. He has played a leading role in the development and promotion of DVB-I as broadcasters prepare for a more IP-based future.
