Whale TV has expanded its free streaming offering by adding Runtime TV to its smart TV platform, further strengthening the role of independent TV operating systems in the growing FAST market.

The deal brings Runtime’s catalogue of ad-supported films, television series and 24-hour linear channels to Whale TV devices in North America, Latin America and selected European markets. The service offers programming across genres including action, comedy, romance, thrillers and documentaries.

The agreement is the latest content partnership for Whale TV, formerly Zeasn, as it continues to build its content proposition alongside larger smart TV platforms. The company says its operating system now reaches more than 46.5 million monthly active televisions through partnerships with over 400 TV brands.

Runtime’s library includes films such as Palm Springs, The Hurt Locker, Cloud Atlas and The Machinist, alongside series including Rebelde and City of God.

Explaining the strategy behind the partnership, JP Garcia, Head of Audience Development at Runtime, said: “We need to be everywhere the audience is, especially in regions where traditional streaming platforms have a limited footprint. Partnering with Whale TV is a massive milestone for us because of their established reach across Europe and Latin America. Launching on a platform of this scale allows us to bring our premium content directly into millions of households that other providers miss.”

The agreement reflects the continued expansion of FAST distribution beyond dedicated streaming services, with TV operating systems increasingly competing to offer viewers integrated libraries of free, advertising-supported content alongside subscription streaming apps.
