Synamedia has appointed Dr Tzvi Gerstl as chief executive officer as the video software specialist embarks on a new phase following the sale of its Video Network business.

Gerstl succeeds Paul Segre, who has led the company for the past six years and will become executive chairman. The leadership change coincides with the completion of Synamedia’s divestiture of its Video Network business, leaving the company focused on streaming, advertising, security and audience monetisation technologies.

Gerstl has served as Chief Business Officer and has been closely involved in shaping Synamedia’s recent strategy. During his tenure, the company secured new customers including BFBS, MTN, Mileto, Partner Communications and YES, while launching products such as GO Shorts and Senza Ignite.

Paul Segre said the timing was right to hand over leadership as the business enters a new phase.

“We have spent the last several years transforming Synamedia, strengthening our portfolio and positioning the company around a clear strategy focused on our customers and the future of video. With the simplification of our business model and strong momentum across the company, now is the right time to transition leadership to the person best positioned to accelerate our growth.

“Tzvi understands our customers because he spends time with them, our technology because he’s helped shape it, and our business because he has been instrumental in its success. The Board and I are confident there is no better person to lead Synamedia into its next chapter.”

Gerstl said operators and broadcasters are looking for technologies that both simplify their businesses and improve monetisation.

“The media industry is navigating profound change as audiences increasingly expect video experiences that are personalised, mobile, and available everywhere. At the same time, operators and media companies need to grow audiences, create new revenue streams, and reduce complexity. That is exactly where Synamedia can make a real difference.

“The future of video will be shaped by those who can attract audiences, monetise effectively, and simplify operations. Synamedia brings together streaming, advertising, monetisation, security, and audience engagement to help customers achieve those outcomes.”

The appointment follows a period of significant strategic change for Synamedia. In recent months the company has expanded its cloud streaming portfolio with Senza Ignite, grown its short-form video offering through GO Shorts and sharpened its focus on software platforms serving broadcasters, operators and streaming providers.
