Lumine Group has expanded its media technology portfolio with the acquisition of Imagine Communications from private equity firm Gores Group, adding channel origination, video networking and advertising technology to its growing collection of broadcast software businesses.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The deal comes after last month’s acquisition of Synamedia’s video networking business by Lumine, which will operate under the Quortex brand.
The Imagine Communications business provides video connectivity solutions, channel origination software and hardware, together with AI-enabled advertising sales and monetisation platforms for broadcasters and media companies worldwide. Its products include the Landmark advertising management platform, widely used by television broadcasters to manage commercial inventory and revenue.
The acquisition strengthens Lumine Group’s position across the broadcast technology supply chain and follows its long-term strategy of acquiring communications and media software companies to own and operate indefinitely rather than integrating or reselling them.
Tony Garcia, chief operating officer of Lumine Group, said the deal broadens the company’s capabilities across video processing and advertising technology.
“Imagine Communications is an important addition to Lumine’s growing media ecosystem. The business will provide origination to our already extensive video processing capabilities, while complementing and expanding TV monetisation with its Landmark Sales AI-enabled advertising product, amongst others.
“Consistent with Lumine’s decentralised operating approach, Imagine Communications will continue to operate as an independent business, and as a buy-and-hold forever owner, we are committed to giving them the stability to keep building on their depth of expertise in the industry.”
Imagine Communications will continue to operate autonomously within Lumine Group, retaining its management team and customer relationships.
Steve Reynolds, CEO of Imagine Communications, said the company’s strategy would remain unchanged under its new ownership.
“We are excited to become part of the Lumine Group global media ecosystem. Lumine Group’s acquisition approach and buy-and-hold philosophy provide us with a solid foundation on which we can continue to innovate, while providing certainty to our customers and employees.
“Operating as an autonomous business within Lumine Group, we have a clear path and excellent support to achieve our vision and serve our customers’ most critical needs.”
The acquisition further expands Lumine’s media software portfolio, which already includes a number of companies serving broadcasters, pay-TV operators and streaming providers, reinforcing the group’s strategy of building a long-term ecosystem of specialist communications and media technology businesses. Other businesses under the Lumine umbrella include Velocix, TransMedia Dynamics, WideOrbit and Vidispine.
