Women’s sports broadcaster W-Sport has expanded its distribution by launching as an add-on subscription through Amazon Prime Video in France and the Netherlands.
The channel became available on the platform on July 1, further extending its reach in two of its key European markets where it says it is already available in more than 10 million homes through existing carriage agreements.
For €1.99 a month, Prime Video subscribers can access W-Sport’s 24-hour linear channel alongside live and on-demand coverage of a range of women’s competitions.
The service’s football rights include England’s Barclays Women’s Super League, Germany’s Frauen-Bundesliga and DFB Pokal, Italy’s Serie A Women, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa, the Gainbridge Super League in the United States and Sweden’s Damallsvenskan. The channel also carries selected coverage of sports including athletics, cycling, netball, sailing, softball and triathlon, together with documentary programming.
Kelly Butler, CEO of W-Sport, said: “Amazon Prime Video is one of the world’s leading entertainment platforms, so this launch is a major step forward for W-Sport. It is just the beginning of our partnership, and it is great to support Amazon’s sports offer with the best of women’s sports.”
The agreement adds to Amazon’s growing portfolio of third-party channels in Europe and gives W-Sport access to Prime Video’s established customer base without requiring viewers to download a separate application.
Founded by Setanta and Premier Sports co-founder Michael O’Rourke and Kelly Butler, W-Sport is now available in more than 70 countries and reaches over 45 million households worldwide.
