GB News is preparing to cut more than a third of its workforce as it looks to reduce costs following years of heavy losses, according to reports.
Around 90 jobs are understood to be at risk across editorial, technology and HR, representing more than a third of the broadcaster’s 260 employees. The channel is home to high profile presenters including Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg. Eamonn Holmes and Nigel Farage MP, who on Tuesday triggered a by-election in his Clacton-on-Sea constituency.
The latest round of cuts comes despite GB News claiming there will be no impact on viewers or its programming. The five-year old channel said the changes are intended to modernise workflows and improve operational efficiency. An earlier redundancy round in 2024 resulted in the reduction of 40 roles.
The broadcaster has continued to build audience loyalty, recently reporting average weekly viewing of around 90,000, ahead of both the BBC News channel and Sky News on that measure. However, it continues to trail its rivals in overall reach while remaining heavily loss-making.
Financial results published earlier this year showed GB News increased revenue by 58% to £26.2 million in the year to May 2025, but still recorded a £22 million loss, taking cumulative losses since launch to around £131 million. Shareholders, led by the hedge fund manager Sir Paul Marshall, have continued to provide financial backing.
Since launch, GB News has been subject to a series of investigations by the communications regulator Ofcom, the latest over an interview with President Trump in November.
