TDF will carry out annual maintenance on its broadcast facilities at the top of the Eiffel Tower between July 28 and August 6.

The work is intended to maintain FM radio and digital terrestrial television services for the Île-de-France region. The Eiffel Tower site is used by TDF to broadcast more than 30 DTT channels and around 30 public and commercial radio stations to some 12 million people.

The maintenance will take place overnight in order to limit disruption. DTT and FM radio broadcasts from the site will be interrupted for three nights from July 28-31, between 00.30 and 06.00.

FM radio services will face a further three nights of interruption from August 3-6, between 00.15 and 05.45. TDF said some FM services will continue on the same frequencies using replacement transmitters.

More than 20 technicians and specialists will be involved in the work, which takes place more than 300 metres above ground and includes checks on antennas and broadcast equipment, emergency shutdown tests, power supply tests and painting.

The Eiffel Tower remains one of France’s most important terrestrial broadcast sites, serving the Paris region with television and radio services around the clock.
