German sports channel Sportdigital has extended its exclusive broadcast rights to Portugal’s top-level football league, Liga Portugal, for a further two years, ensuring coverage of the competition through the end of the 2027/28 season.
The new agreement, which covers the 2026/27 and 2027/28 seasons, was concluded in partnership with international sports marketing agency Sportfive. Liga Portugal matches will continue to be shown on pay-TV channel Sportdigital Fußball and the Sportdigital+ streaming platform.
The Hamburg-based broadcaster has held the rights to the Portuguese league since 2013, making it one of the longest-running properties in its football portfolio.
“The Liga Portugal has been one of the defining elements of our football programming for more than a decade,” said Sportdigital Managing Director Gisbert Wundram. “It combines historic clubs with outstanding player development and delivers high-quality football every week. We are therefore delighted to continue this successful partnership with Sportfive for another two years.”
Liga Portugal is home to some of Europe’s most recognisable clubs, including reigning champions FC Porto, Benfica and Sporting CP, while also serving as one of the continent’s leading talent development competitions. The league has provided a launchpad for players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, James Rodríguez, Enzo Fernández and Luis Díaz before they moved on to major European leagues.
Attention this season is expected to focus on another generation of emerging talent, including FC Porto youngsters Rodrigo Mora and Victor Froholdt, as well as Benfica’s Norwegian forward Andreas Schjelderup.
The 2026/27 Liga Portugal season begins on 7 August, with Sportdigital showin four live matches from the opening round. GD Estoril Praia host FC Famalicão on the opening Friday evening, followed by Sporting’s away fixture at Estrela Amadora on Saturday. Sunday’s schedule includes champions FC Porto against FC Alverca and Benfica’s home match against Académico Viseu.
