The Walt Disney Company has struck what it describes as a first-of-its-kind global partnership with TikTok that will bring fan-created short-form videos directly into the Disney+ streaming service.
The pilot will launch in the United States in the coming months before expanding internationally. Participating TikTok creators will be able to opt into the programme, with their Disney-related videos appearing both on TikTok and within Disney+’s new Verts [Vertical] short-form video experience.
The agreement covers content inspired by Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and FX programming, giving creators access to approved assets from hundreds of Disney films and television series.
The partnership also establishes a joint Disney Creator Ambassador Program, offering selected creators greater visibility, exclusive events and career development opportunities.
Disney said the deal reflects the growing influence of fan-created content on entertainment discovery. According to TikTok, users shared an average of 6.5 million film and television-related posts every day last year, while almost half of viewers surveyed went on to watch a programme after discovering it on the platform.
Disney Chief Brand Officer Asad Ayaz said the partnership creates “a new bridge between the stories we tell and the creativity they inspire”, while TikTok’s Global Head of Entertainment Dawn Yang said it recognises how creators extend the life of films and television shows through online communities.
