Hearst will acquire Disney’s 50% stake in A+E Global Media for $1.2 billion, ending a partnership that has existed for more than four decades.
The deal gives Hearst sole ownership of brands including History, A&E and Lifetime, together with the company’s production studios and streaming assets.
The sale reflects Disney’s continued focus on its direct-to-consumer businesses, including Disney+, Hulu and ESPN, while Hearst strengthens its position as an independent owner of premium television brands.
It comes as the US television industry undergoes a wider restructuring, with media companies increasingly separating or refocusing their traditional cable operations.
