Dolby Laboratories and Hisense have launched the first rollout of Dolby Vision 2, bringing the next generation of Dolby’s HDR picture technology to select Hisense television models through a firmware update.

The rollout begins with Hisense’s 2026 UX, UR9, UR8 and U7 series televisions – marketed as the U7 Pro in Europe, the Middle East and Central & South America – running either Google TV or the VIDAA operating system. According to the companies, additional models will receive the update in the coming weeks across North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

Dolby Vision 2 is designed to enhance all existing Dolby Vision content, including films, television programmes, games and live sports, without requiring new hardware. The upgrade introduces a new image engine, enhanced content intelligence features and additional user controls intended to improve picture quality across a wide range of viewing conditions.

“Dolby Vision 2 sets a new standard for what television can look like, and today consumers can experience that difference for themselves,” said John Couling, Senior Vice President of Entertainment at Dolby Laboratories. “With this update, the entertainment you love in Dolby Vision now looks even better, setting the stage for even more incredible experiences to come.”

Among the new features is Content Intelligence, which uses Dolby Vision metadata to optimise picture settings dynamically on a scene-by-scene basis. An intensity slider also allows viewers to adjust the depth and richness of the Dolby Vision effect according to personal preference or challenging viewing conditions such as reflections and off-axis viewing.

Premium televisions supporting Dolby Vision 2 Max receive additional features, including Authentic Motion, designed to reduce judder and the “soap opera effect” while maintaining a cinematic appearance. Another addition, Light Sense 2, continuously adjusts picture quality to ambient lighting conditions while preserving the creator’s artistic intent. Advanced picture settings are also available for users seeking greater control over image performance.

According to Hisense, its UX, UR9, UR8 and U7 series will be the first televisions worldwide to support Dolby Vision 2 Max.

“Hisense customers expect the best, and Dolby Vision 2 delivers on that promise,” said Sonny Ming, General Manager of TV Product Marketing Department at Hisense. “The moment users turn on their Hisense TV, they’re immersed in lifelike visuals -delivering the vivid, true-to-life viewing experience Hisense displays are designed for.”

Streaming providers CANAL+, iQIYI and Peacock have committed to supporting the expanded capabilities of Dolby Vision 2 in future content, according to Hisense, but no launch dates were announced.
