BCE to demonstrate European sovereign cloud workflow

Broadcasting Center Europe will demonstrate a sovereign cloud media supply chain at IBC 2026, combining its managed services with infrastructure from Scaleway and video technology from Ateme.

The RTL Group company will present the system as a European alternative to services built around non-European hyperscale cloud providers.

Scaleway supplies the underlying European cloud infrastructure, while Ateme provides media processing. BCE integrates and operates the environment, including ingest, processing, workflow orchestration, distribution, monitoring and support.

The system forms part of BCE’s Media-as-a-Service offering, which connects cloud, hybrid and on-premises operations. It can be used for live events, linear channels and content libraries.

“Sovereignty is about more than where data is stored; it is about who controls the media supply chain and whether organisations retain the freedom to choose, adapt and evolve their operations over time,” said BCE chief technology officer Sylvain Merle.

The demonstration reflects growing interest among European broadcasters in retaining operational control over media assets and data while reducing reliance on US cloud providers.

BCE will show the workflow in Hall 1, stand C16, during IBC in Amsterdam from September 11 to 14.

The Luxembourg-based company employs more than 230 people and provides infrastructure, systems integration and managed operations to over 400 organisations across EMEA.
