Google has expanded its US free streaming service Google TV Freeplay with more than 10,000 advertising-supported films and television episodes.

The on-demand catalogue includes content from studios and distributors including A24 and Lionsgate. Initial titles include Lady Bird and Seventeen Again, with Google planning to refresh the library throughout the year.

Freeplay’s linear offering has also expanded to more than 300 channels across news, sport, reality television and factual entertainment.

Recent additions include World of Love Island, Bloomberg TV+, Yahoo Sports Network and The Martha Stewart Channel.

The content is available through the Freeplay app on supported Google TV devices without a paid subscription. Freeplay also feeds advertising inventory into the Google TV advertising network, which is sold through Google Ads and Display & Video 360.

Google began introducing its own built-in FAST channels in 2023, initially combining them in a programme guide with services from Pluto TV, Tubi, Plex and Haystack News. The company subsequently adopted the Freeplay brand for its internally supplied channels.

The Freeplay channels and new on-demand catalogue are currently available in the United States only.
