Lynk Global and Omnispace have formally merged their Direct-to-Device (D2D) businesses and rebranded the company as Elveo Mobile.
“The newly combined company that delivers mobile connectivity and elevated intelligence for a planet on the move. Elveo will bring reliable, next-generation connectivity directly from satellites to mobile phones, devices and machines everywhere on Earth in multiple frequency bands,” stated the company.
SES is a major investor in the entity, along with Fortress, Stepstone, Columbia Capital, Telcom Ventures and Blazar Ventures. SES announced an expanded strategic investment and collaboration with the new company.
“Elveo unites two pioneers in direct-to-device (D2D) communications, with a combined 20 years of heritage, globally coordinated high-priority spectrum rights in multiple bands, patented multi-band satellite technology and deep partnerships to close the coverage gap for mobile network operators (MNOs) worldwide. Elveo’s payload will feature advanced on-board processing and networking features designed to adapt, iterate and grow rapidly,” said the company.
“We’re delivering a fundamental shift in communications by connecting ‘elevated intelligence’ directly from our network in space to mobile devices around the world,” said Ramu Potarazu, chief executive officer, Elveo. “The Elveo network will be able to process and adapt on orbit, enabling global interconnectivity, voice and data services, and compute power to mobile users,” the statement continued.
“Elveo offers ubiquitous global D2D connectivity for the planet. Elveo’s service will work with the eight billion mobile phones and devices people already own. Elveo’s advanced network design can bridge this coverage gap as an affordable and alternate solution for MNOs. Elveo will also be optimised for 5G and beyond as well as non-terrestrial networks (NTN), with its own portfolio of spectrum, to enable enhanced services for next-generation devices and address critical coverage gaps for consumer, automotive, IoT and government sectors. Elveo is positioned to move faster and farther than other D2D players, with commercial agreements in place with more than 50 MNOs and major distribution partners operating in 60+ countries, and a multi-band licensed spectrum footprint,” added the company.
SES will support Elveo in accelerating its delivery of powerful, cost-effective global D2D services. SES and Elveo will also work together on global spectrum initiatives that will enable Elveo to unlock delivery of D2D solutions. By partnering with Elveo, SES deepens its commitment with access to its expansive, global space and ground infrastructure, while also supporting Elveo’s go-to-market, engineering, operations and regulatory needs. The collaboration will enable SES to enhance current services for its mobile telecom, enterprise, and government customers around the world. SES users will benefit from multi-orbit access to the Elveo low-Earth orbit (LEO) network in combination with SES’s own GEO and MEO networks. SES and Elveo say they will deliver the first truly multi-orbit integrated, cost-effective, D2D satellite solution.
“Elveo is an agile, forward-thinking innovator, and exactly the type of company we sought as our strategic partner for direct-to-device services,” said Adel Al-Saleh, Chief Executive Officer, SES. “SES customers will now have access to premier D2D services, further expanding our multi-orbit connectivity solutions.”
“As Elveo, we’re excited to deepen our partnership with SES and get to work,” said Potarazu. “This strategic investment will accelerate Elveo’s time to market and bring our D2D solutions to SES customers worldwide. We look forward to working together to advance Elveo’s mission to deliver powerful compute and connectivity to individuals and objects everywhere on Earth.”
