Fourteen EBU Members and partner broadcasters across 13 countries are set to bring the Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026 to audiences across Europe and North Africa, as one of the region’s leading multi-sport events gets under way tomorrow.
Taking place in Taranto, Italy, from now to September 3rd, the Games will bring together athletes from across Europe, Africa and Asia for two weeks of competition spanning 31 sports.
The EBU Members providing coverage of Taranto 2026 are: RTSH (Albania), EPTV and Radio Algeria (Algeria); CYBC (Cyprus); RTK (Kosovo); RTP (Portugal); MRT (North Macedonia); RTCG (Montenegro); SNRT (Morocco); ERT (Greece); TRT (Türkiye); and Télévision Tunisienne (Tunisia). They are joined by Sport en France (France) and OnSport (Egypt), further extending the reach of the Games across the Mediterranean region.
Eurovision Sport, the EBU’s free streaming platform created through the collaboration of public service media, will also provide international coverage.
The broadcasting line-up follows the renewal of the partnership between the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG), building on their collaboration for the Mediterranean Games Oran 2022 and Mediterranean Beach Games Heraklion 2023. Through the agreement, EBU Members will bring Taranto 2026 to audiences across television, radio and digital services.
The Mediterranean Games brings together athletes from National Olympic Committees across three continents and celebrating the sporting diversity and shared heritage of the Mediterranean. Taranto 2026 will feature 31 sports, with established disciplines including athletics, swimming, gymnastics and volleyball alongside sports such as 3×3 basketball, padel, skateboarding and roller sports.
Andreas Aristodemou, Director of Olympics, EBU Sport, commented: “The Mediterranean Games are a special event for the EBU and our Members, bringing together athletes and audiences from across Europe, Africa and Asia through a shared passion for sport. We are delighted to see such a strong line-up of EBU Members bringing Taranto 2026 to audiences across Europe and beyond, and making the Games widely accessible across their services. Together with our Members and our Eurovision Sport platform, we look forward to showcasing the athletes, stories and sporting diversity of Taranto 2026 and bringing audiences closer to the action over the next two weeks.”
The renewed partnership also includes the Mediterranean Beach Games Portimăo-Lagoa 2027, taking place in Portugal from September 11th to 18th 2027, continuing the EBU and its Members’ commitment to bringing the region’s major multi-sport events to audiences free-to-air.
