SpaceX has acquired a huge tract of shore-based land in Louisiana – in the south-central region of the US – which will now be developed to become the main launch site for SpaceX and in particular its giant Starship. The next test flight (#14) of Starship will take place in the next few days.
SpaceX’s says it will spend up to $100 billion (€85.6bn) on the new site, in Vermillion Parish, Louisiana, and will provide work for 10,000 “jobs at the site.
The aim is to build multiple launch platforms at the facility and able to support “thousands of launches annually,” said the company.
Starship carries the Starlink broadband, cellular and AI orbiting satellites, as well as the orbital data centre plans and the Mars ambitions that justify a company valued near $2 trillion, and whose shares rose about 2.5 per cent on the news released on August 25th.
The site has been approved for development by the local authorities.
