DREAM BOX NTP TIME V1.0.0
This modification is very important for Dreambox receiver owners.
Many Dreambox users have experienced issues with setting the correct date and time and keeping the receiver clock properly synchronized with TV channels. This is mainly because some Dreambox images and systems do not provide complete built-in support for NTP Time synchronization, which may prevent the receiver from automatically updating its clock correctly.
I previously addressed this issue by developing a plugin called DreamTimeSync, which automatically synchronizes and updates the receiver's system time using NTP servers.
However, after further testing and consideration, I decided that a better approach would be to solve the issue directly at the system level rather than relying on a separate plugin.
For this reason, I prepared a set of modifications that can be integrated and injected directly into the Dreambox image, making time synchronization a native part of the system and allowing it to operate automatically and more reliably.
These modifications can be installed using the attached files.
The provided packages have been prepared to support the main Dreambox architectures:
MIPS – ARM – ARM64
I have successfully tested these modifications on several different Dreambox images and systems using a Dreambox 920, and the results were excellent, with the receiver successfully connecting to NTP servers and synchronizing the system time correctly.
Unfortunately, I currently do not have Dreambox devices based on MIPS or ARM64 architectures available for direct testing. However, from a technical point of view, the packages have been prepared to support these architectures and are expected to work correctly on compatible Dreambox devices as well.
To install the DEB package:
To install the IPK package:Code:dpkg -i /tmp/dreambox-ntp-sync_1.0.0_all.deb reboot
To verify the installation after reboot:Code:opkg install /tmp/dreambox-ntp-sync_1.0.0_all.ipk reboot
/usr/bin/merlin-ntp-sync --version
cat /tmp/merlin-ntp-sync.log
After the Dreambox is connected to the Internet, run the following commands to verify the synchronization service:
These commands can be used to confirm that the synchronization service is running correctly, that the Dreambox has successfully connected to the NTP servers, and that the system date and time have been updated properly.Code:/usr/bin/merlin-ntp-sync --version systemctl status merlin-ntp-sync.service --no-pager systemctl status merlin-ntp-sync.timer --no-pager cat /tmp/merlin-ntp-sync.log date
ipk for mips receivers
deb for arm - arm64 receivers
It should appear as shown in the screenshot attached below at each step.
