The Disney Channel will be renamed Disney TV in Germany, Austria and Switzerland from 1 December 2026, with the free-to-air channel adopting a broader programming strategy aimed more strongly at adult viewers.
The Walt Disney Company GSA confirmed the change following its announcement in July that the Disney Channel brand would be replaced by Disney TV in the DACH region. The rebrand is intended to bring a wider range of Disney entertainment brands together on the linear channel, while retaining its existing free-to-air status.
Under the new name, Disney TV will continue to carry Disney and Pixar films and series, but will also add action and crime programming as well as selected documentaries. The channel’s programming will increasingly target adults, particularly during primetime.
The schedule will feature drama and comedy series during daytime hours from 08:30 to 13:00 CET and again from 17:00 CET. In primetime, Disney TV will introduce defined programming strands focused on adult audiences, including action, crime and drama series as well as live-action films.
The channel will also introduce regular programming blocks dedicated to FX, Marvel Studios and Star Wars. Selected franchises will receive dedicated slots on specific days of the week, according to Disney.
Despite the stronger adult focus, children and families will continue to be an important part of the channel’s offering, with programmes and films from across the Disney portfolio remaining on the schedule.
The rebrand represents a significant repositioning of the former Disney Channel in the DACH market. Rather than operating primarily as a children’s and family channel, Disney TV is being positioned as a broader general entertainment service bringing together Disney’s portfolio of brands in a single free-to-air channel.
