German systems integrator Broadcast Solutions has deployed an AI-powered camera automation system from Studio Automated in combination with an Egripment HotHead 3 remote head for the international tactical feed of the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.

The match between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern München was played at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund on 22 August 2026. The Bundesliga and host broadcaster Sportcast have used the season-opening fixture for several years to test and showcase new live production technologies.

For this year’s edition, the international feed included a fully automated camera system combining Studio Automated’s AI camera automation technology with Egripment’s HotHead 3. The deployment follows a demonstration of the integrated system by Broadcast Solutions at Sportsinnovation earlier in 2026.

Studio Automated’s technology is designed to go beyond conventional automated camera systems based primarily on ball or player tracking. Its AI analyses the wider match scene and context and applies broadcast production principles to determine framing and camera movements.

For the Supercup, the system controlled an Egripment HotHead 3 fitted with a professional large-lens camera. The combination is intended to bring together AI-driven shot composition with the precision and smooth movement of a robotic remote head.

According to Broadcast Solutions, the deployment demonstrates that AI-based camera operation is moving from technology demonstrations towards production-ready workflows for live sports.

“What started as a technology showcase at Sportsinnovation has now delivered an international tactical feed for one of Germany’s most prestigious football events,” said Jens Fischer, Senior Business Development Manager at Broadcast Solutions Group.

The Studio Automated platform runs on standard on-premises hardware and does not require cloud connectivity or a calibration process. It supports multiple football camera positions, including tactical camera workflows, and is designed to integrate with existing production environments.

The cooperation forms part of a broader technology partnership between Studio Automated and Egripment. Studio Automated supports Egripment’s remote-head portfolio, including the HotHead 3, 306, 301, 205 and MiniShot, through native integration with Egripment’s DigiLite IP ecosystem.

The companies will demonstrate the integrated technology at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam. Studio Automated and Egripment will be showcased on the Broadcast Solutions stand, 12.F20, with workflows aimed at premium sports productions.
