Irish-language public broadcaster TG4 has joined EIT Culture & Creativity as a cooperation partner.

The agreement will connect TG4 with a European network of broadcasters, technology companies, start-ups, researchers and education providers working across the audiovisual sector.

TG4 will contribute operational expertise and production use cases, providing an environment in which new technologies and working methods can be tested. The collaboration will focus on issues affecting public service media, including changing audience behaviour, production, distribution, sustainability and skills.

The broadcaster’s participation will also bring a minority-language perspective to projects developed through the network.

“Joining EIT Culture & Creativity aligns directly with TG4’s new strategy and our focus on innovation, sustainability and building capacity across the sector,” said Trevor Ó Clochartaigh, TG4’s director of innovation, sustainability and sectoral capacity.

“It gives us a valuable European platform to share expertise, test new ideas and turn innovation into practical solutions that benefit our audiences, our production partners and the wider sector.”

Ó Clochartaigh is also co-chair of the European Broadcasting Union’s People Committee.

EIT Culture & Creativity was established in 2023 by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, an EU body. It provides funding and support across sectors including audiovisual media, gaming, architecture, fashion and cultural heritage.

The partners have not yet announced individual projects or trials arising from the agreement. They will present the collaboration at IBC2026 in Amsterdam, which runs from 11 to 14 September.
