Comcast brings production-ready AI tools to video workflows

Comcast Technology Solutions is introducing six AI-powered applications designed to automate tasks across broadcast, streaming and sports video workflows.
Built on the company’s existing VideoAI framework, the applications cover video verticalisation, regional-language localisation, chapter creation, metadata enrichment, automated quality control and intelligent clipping.
The tools will be integrated with Comcast’s Cloud Media Processing orchestration layer, allowing them to operate before, during or after existing processing workflows. Commercial availability will be phased through 2026 and 2027.
The verticalisation application automatically reframes landscape video for portrait viewing, detecting the centre of the action and introducing cuts and pans where required. The localisation tool extracts and translates dialogue while retaining background audio and music, adding AI-generated dubbing, voice matching and captions.
Smart Chapters identifies programme introductions, credits and potential advertising breaks. Candidate ad positions can be scored before triggering subsequent conditioning, transcoding and packaging processes.
Metadata Enrichment analyses individual scenes and assets, feeding the results into Comcast’s Cloud Video Platform. The resulting data supports semantic and natural-language searches based on a user’s intent rather than conventional title or keyword queries.
Automated QC provides continuous monitoring for problems including black screens, missing audio and other content-integrity failures. Intelligent Clipping allows operators to describe the required moment in natural language, with the system producing clips for sports coverage, social media or trailers.
“The video industry is ready to move past AI hypotheticals and onto production-ready applications that solve real problems,” said Bart Spriester, senior vice-president and general manager of streaming, broadcast and advertising at Comcast Technology Solutions.
The applications will be available through Comcast Media360, its managed video supply-chain offering for broadcasters and content providers; Comcast Sports360 for rights holders; and the standalone Cloud Video Platform used by operators and multichannel providers.
VideoAI already supports functions including contextual advertising, segmentation and live-to-VOD preparation. Comcast will demonstrate the expanded workflow applications at IBC2026, held in Amsterdam from 11 to 14 September, on stand 5.C80.
