VodafoneThree is upgrading its television offer in the UK market with a new entertainment platform bringing together live television, streaming services, cloud gaming and on demand content through a single Android TV-based interface.
Launching in October, Vodafone TV will be available to Vodafone broadband, 5G Broadband and mobile customers. The service integrates Freely, Netflix, HBO Max, more than 150 additional live channels, Vodafone Box Office and over 300 cloud games. AI-powered search and personalised recommendations aggregate content across services, while a companion app allows customers to continue viewing on mobile devices.
The platform is powered by a compact 4K Android TV set-top box produced by Netgem and supporting Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, with Vodafone positioning it as an all-in-one entertainment hub rather than a traditional pay-TV service.
Netgem has secured a multi-year agreement to provide and operate the service using its PLEIO platform. Netgem will supply the underlying technology, content aggregation and day-to-day operational management.
The operator says the service combines Freely’s IP-delivered public service channels with major streaming apps, an on-demand transactional movie store and cloud gaming, all searchable through a single interface.
The agreement marks one of Netgem’s largest operator wins, with the company describing the deployment as validation of its strategy to provide technology, content and operational services through a single managed platform.
VodafoneThree Consumer Director Rob Winterschladen said the service brings together “live TV, On Demand, streaming, gaming, music and all the apps on the Google Play Store” in one experience.
Netgem CEO Mathias Hautefort added the deal demonstrates the company’s ability to operate television services “at the scale of a leading operator.”
The launch also strengthens Freely’s distribution following recent agreements with television manufacturers and broadband providers, while extending HBO Max’s reach in the UK through another operator partnership.
Vodafone has previously offered Apple TV devices to its customer base in the UK, but the Netgem agreement marks a significant upgrade.
