DTVKit and Ocean Blue Software will demonstrate a production-ready DVB-I client at IBC2026, highlighting an implementation aimed at helping broadcasters, operators and TV manufacturers move from DVB-I trials to commercial deployment.
The jointly developed client is available to DTVKit members as a shared-source, royalty-free implementation, designed for smart TVs, set-top boxes and hybrid TV platforms.
The client is written in native C++ and uses a JSON-based API to separate the DVB-I functionality from the user interface. DTVKit says this provides a portable, low-resource implementation that can be integrated across Android, Linux, RDK and other browser-capable environments.
At IBC, the client will run on DTVKit’s Android reference set-top box platform with a React-based user interface developed by Ocean Blue. The demonstration will cover DVB-I service discovery and regional selection, channel browsing, EPG information, accessibility and parental-control metadata, IP-delivered linear channels, on-demand boxsets and linked HbbTV and web applications.
The implementation complies with the DVB-I BlueBook A177r7 specification. DTVKit says the architecture is not Android-specific and can be adapted to other operating systems and middleware platforms.
The companies see DVB-I moving towards wider commercial deployment as manufacturers look for implementations that can reduce integration work while maintaining flexibility across device platforms.
DVB-I is designed to bring broadcast-style service discovery and programme navigation to IP-delivered television, potentially allowing broadband-delivered channels to appear alongside traditional terrestrial, satellite and cable services within the TV interface.
