SkyShowtime to be axed?
September 15, 2026
Reports have emerged that Comcast’s NBC and Paramount Skydance are considering ending the operations of SkyShowtime, their joint streaming platform that operates in European markets.
SkyShowtime’s board of directors are said to have sent a letter to the company’s CEO, Monty Sarhan, this week. According to the letter, which reported by Reuters, the board is considering “strategic options” for the business, including completely shutting down the platform.
A “competitive and challenging market” was cited as the reason for the review. The letter refers to working through possible next steps for the joint venture of Comcast and Paramount Skydance. Sarhan shared the board of directors’ letter with employees.
“SkyShowtime operates in one of the most competitive markets in our industry,” the board’s letter said. “Despite the excellent work of the team and the strength of what you and the team have built, the landscape continues to evolve rapidly, and remains highly challenging.”
It added that any ongoing review “includes the possibility of a wind down,” but all options remain under consideration.
SkyShowtime was rolled out in 2022 in European markets where Sky doesn’t operate satellite or cable services. The platform is available in 20+ European markets, including Spain, Portugal and the Nordics.
