Media Press Group has acquired the EPG and content discovery business of InfoPortugal from Impresa Group, giving the entertainment metadata company a direct presence in Portugal.
Media Press says the transaction makes it the largest provider of TV metadata and electronic programme guide services in the Portuguese market. The acquisition includes InfoPortugal’s existing EPG team, customer relationships and Portuguese-language editorial operations.
The business will operate through EPG Metadata Services – TVADVISOR, Unipessoal, Lda., while continuing to use the InfoPortugal name under licence. The InfoPortugal trademark itself remains with its existing owner and is not part of the transaction.
Media Press plans to integrate the operation progressively with its European metadata infrastructure. Portuguese customers will gain access to products including the MP API, covering TV, VOD, sports, editorial and visual metadata, alongside content identification and automated delivery services.
The deal follows Media Press Group’s acquisition of Spanish metadata provider MediaData TV and further expands its presence across the Iberian Peninsula.
“With this acquisition, Media Press Group becomes the number one provider of TV metadata and EPG services in Portugal,” said CEO Magdalena Cechnicka. “We will combine these strengths with our European technology, infrastructure and innovative products, while preserving the local expertise and continuity valued by customers.”
Media Press says its immediate priority will be maintaining uninterrupted services for existing InfoPortugal EPG customers before progressively integrating the Portuguese business into its wider European operation.
