Official Charts Company launches PRO intelligence platform
September 21, 2026

The Official Charts Company, the UK’s music and home entertainment data business, has launched Official Charts PRO, a new intelligence platform offering access to the data behind the UK’s charts.

Representing the biggest technology investment in the company’s history, PRO provides direct access to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, and enables users to track performance across artists, tracks and film titles, understand changes in consumption, and use those insights to shape release strategies and commercial decisions.

Official Charts PRO draws on sales and streaming data supplied directly by digital services and retail partners, with the Official Charts Company capturing more than 99 per cent of UK music consumption and over 90 per cent of physical and digital home entertainment transactional sales.

Music clients can analyse data ranging from daily track streams to market-wide trends. The platform includes data on all chart-registered artists releasing in the UK, giving users a broader view of how artists and releases are performing.

For home entertainment, PRO brings together film transactional data, box office information and subscription streaming availability, allowing clients to compare titles, understand purchasing and rental behaviour and assess release windows.

The platform offers customisable dashboards, deeper analysis over longer time periods, automated reporting and enhanced search.

PRO aims to provide a wide range of insights into the trends shaping music and home entertainment, with some of Official Charts’ latest data revealing:

Digital film transactions on the rise: Together, digital purchases and VoD accounted for 90 per cent of total units across the UK’s Top 20 home entertainment titles in 2025, rising steadily year on year from 66 per cent in 2020. Although VoD accounts for the highest proportion of sales – representing around half of total units for the past two years – digital ownership is an increasingly important part of the mix, accounting for 41 per cent of units in 2025, up from 27 per cent in 2020. Meanwhile, 39 per cent of last year’s films waited over 200 days before debuting on subscription streaming following their transactional release to buy or rent (according to data compiled in partnership with Fabric Insights).

Physical formats remain a major driver of No.1 albums: 65 per cent of UK No.1 albums in 2025 first reached the top spot with physical sales accounting for the majority of their chart units that week. Physical sales accounted for an average of 60 per cent of the chart units behind the UK’s No.1 albums across that year, and played a major role in the success of several of the year’s top artists such as Oasis, Sam Fender and Taylor Swift (pictured).

New artists among last year’s biggest singles: A third of 2025’s UK Top 20 singles came from artists that had started releasing music within the past five years. At the same time, the proportion of artists in the Top 20 that saw their first charting single within the previous three years tripled from just 10 per cent in 2023 to 30 oer cent in 2025, in spite of the overall increase in chart representation for more established acts seen over the past decade.

Becca Monahan, Interim Co-Managing Director at the Official Charts Company said: “The weekly charts are the most visible expression of our data, but the detail behind them supports decisions across the music and home entertainment industries every day. Official Charts PRO opens up more of that intelligence to our clients – taking an already comprehensive offering and making it more accessible, flexible and actionable.”

Chris Austin, Interim Co-Managing Director at the Official Charts Company, added: “Official Charts PRO is the most significant development to our services yet, transforming how businesses can access and use Official Charts data. Whether you are an artist planning a release, a manager assessing a campaign or a distributor reviewing a film’s performance, our aim is to put trusted data at the heart of those decisions.”

The platform launches immediately for UK and Irish music data, with UK home entertainment following on September 24th.
