Paramount Television Studios is offering Ride or Die to rival platforms after Prime Video decided not to renew the action comedy for a second season.

The series, starring Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham, launched globally on Prime Video on July 15. Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios jointly produced the eight-part series, alongside Double Dream and Spencer’s Orit Entertainment.

The cancellation comes despite strong viewing figures. According to Luminate data cited in reports, Ride or Die recorded 927,000 US views from its first two days of availability and subsequently reached No.1 in Prime Video’s US rankings.

It also made Nielsen’s streaming rankings, initially placing eighth across all streaming programmes and third among originals with 869 million viewing minutes. In its second week this increased to 922 million minutes, taking it to fourth overall and second among streaming originals.

No reason has been given by Prime Video for the decision, there has been speculation around the show’s appeal to older, rather than younger audiences.

Paramount Television Studios is now seeking another broadcaster or streaming service prepared to continue the series.

Created by Tessa Coates, Ride or Die follows long-standing friends Debbie Claybourne and Judith Burton, whose relationship changes when Debbie discovers that Judith is an international assassin. The cast also includes Bill Nighy, Ed Skrein, Sylvia Hoeks, Calam Lynch and Savannah Steyn.

The series was originally developed at Skydance Television before moving to Paramount Television Studios following Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount Global.
