Disney+ rewrites terms for channels and third-party services

Disney+ has updated its subscriber agreement in the UK and other markets to accommodate a growing range of live channels, third-party services and additional subscriptions as the streamer develops beyond its traditional on-demand model.

The revised terms explicitly allow Disney+ to offer additional subscription services and services operated by third parties through the platform. The additional services may be offered under their own terms rather than those provided by Disney itself.

Disney has also introduced specific provisions covering complaints about television channels carried within Disney+. Complaints relating to live or near-live channels will be the responsibility of the broadcaster concerned rather than Disney+

The changes provide further evidence of Disney’s plans to develop Disney+ into a broader entertainment hub, combining its established streaming catalogue with live programming, channels and potentially additional subscription services.

Advertising provisions have also been widened. Disney says all service plans may contain promotional material and sponsorship, as well as advertising before or after programmes and within channels, live and as-live programming, special events and third-party services. The provision applies to all plans rather than only Disney+’s advertising-supported tier.

Disney has separately added provisions covering promotional subscription periods and telecom or other third-party billing, while reducing the notice period for subscription price changes from 30 to 28 days.
