Sunrise considers 450 job cuts in operating model overhaul

Swiss telecoms operator Sunrise is considering cutting up to 450 full-time positions as part of a multi-year transformation programme designed to reduce costs and reshape its operating model.

The company said it was evaluating a “comprehensive realignment” intended to prepare the business for changes in technology, customer behaviour and the wider market. The programme would place greater emphasis on customer experience and loyalty, network performance and the reliability of its services.

Sunrise also wants to accelerate the development and deployment of new products and services, while reducing its structural cost base.

The first phase includes a systematic review of supplier contracts alongside the potential workforce reduction. Employees working in shops, sales and customer service would be largely excluded from the cuts, while apprentices would be excluded entirely.

Sunrise plans to begin a consultation with employee representatives and the syndicom trade union during the fourth quarter of 2026, once the legally required information is available.

The operator has not yet disclosed the level of cost savings it expects to achieve or provided further details of how its organisational structure might change.

Sunrise said it would provide further information once its evaluation of the transformation programme has been completed.
