Emmanuel Macron, president of France and Canadian prime minster Mark Carney met on September 20th in the tiny overseas French territory of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, an archipelago of eight islands covering just 242 sq kms, and south of Newfoundland.
Somehow rhe location failed to be incorporated into Canada but made a great location for the summit between the two leaders. Top of the agenda was a commitment to work together on Canada’s wish for Associate Membership of the European Union, and a pledge to work together on the economy generally and space infrastructure in particular.
Speaking to reporters, Carney said he and Macron will task their space agencies and defence ministries to develop and share common infrastructure, including space launch systems and ground-based reception facilities.
Carney added the partnership between Canada and France is at the heart of its growing relationship with Europe.
Macron is en route to New York for the UN General Assembly.
