Elon Musk is predicting that SpaceX’s Starlink satellites could carry a majority of global internet within 10 years, powered by a 100x bandwidth increase from its V3 satellites including the Starmind versions which are now awaiting examination and probable approval by the FCC.

SpaceX’s enterprise revenue has surged 108 per cent helped by numerous airline deals with the likes of American Airlines L) and Southwest and over $6 billion (€5.2bn) in Starshield military-focussed contracts and funded by the US Department of War/Defence. Recently SpaceX announced that Vietnamese airline VietJet was rolling out Starlink on its 129 aircraft fleet.

The ‘global majority’ claim is not new and was made by Musk back during SpaceX’s Earnings Call on August 4th.

However, in a post on X on September 20th, Musk stated “Connectivity per [Starmind] satellite will be more like 10Tb in both directions and there is a path to 100+Tb. Each sat is 250kW and will have a SpaceX-designed Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 computer.”

These comments echoed those made back in August, when he said: “The Starlink V3 satellite is about an order of magnitude more capable than the Starlink V2 satellite, which is already a very capable satellite.”

SpaceX expects “to launch about an order of magnitude more Starlink V3 satellites. That would mean a roughly two order of magnitude increase in the delivered bandwidth.” he continued.

“It’s not out of the question that at some point, Starlink will deliver a majority of the world’s internet. At least in countries where we’re allowed to operate, which is the vast majority of countries. And it’s not in the infinity future. It’s less than 10 years,” Musk said.

“With the advent of AI and humanoid robotics and vehicle robotics and just a massive number of robots, the app type of bandwidth will be much greater than it has been in the past,” he added.
