Spotify has launched on most Whale TV-powered television sets, extending the audio streaming service to millions of additional connected TVs worldwide.
The Spotify app provides access to music and podcasts, alongside audiobooks and video in markets where those services are available. Existing Spotify customers can sign in through the television, while new users can create an account from the app.
Whale TV says its operating system currently powers more than 47.5 million monthly active TVs through partnerships with more than 400 television brands.
“The TV is used for so much more than just watching TV these days,” said Lucas Huang, VP Content Distribution at Whale TV. “The biggest and brightest screen in the home is essentially the household’s entertainment hub, where video, music and podcasts all live side by side.”
In line with its position of the most popular audio streaming service globally, Spotify can be found on a variety of TV OS, ahead of rivals Apple TV and Amazon Music.
The addition of Spotify expands Whale TV’s content proposition beyond conventional television and video streaming as independent smart TV operating systems compete to establish themselves as broader home entertainment platforms.
Spotify is available from today through the Whale TV app store on supported models in markets where both Spotify and Whale TV operate.
