Viaplay has migrated a number of its free-to-air channels to Encompass Digital Media’s Altitude Scheduling platform as part of a move to streamline its channel operations.
The deployment includes TV3, TV6, TV8 and TV10 and uses Encompass’s managed Scheduling-as-a-Service offering, combining technology from Op2mise.ai with media operations provided from Encompass’s centre in Riga, Latvia.
Altitude Scheduling uses cloud-based, AI-enabled automation to handle tasks including programme changes, rights restrictions, regional variations, metadata, advertising requirements and platform-specific delivery workflows.
Viaplay says the migration is reducing the amount of manual work involved in scheduling its free-to-air portfolio.
“We needed a more flexible approach to scheduling that could simplify our day-to-day operations while giving us the agility to respond as our needs evolve,” said Erik Ekbjörn, Vice President Content Platforms at Viaplay.
“Working with Encompass has helped us reduce manual effort across our free-to-air channels, streamline our workflows and improve operational efficiency.”
The underlying scheduling technology is supplied by UK-based Op2mise.ai, while Encompass provides the managed operational element.
“This deployment reflects the growing demand for managed scheduling services that help broadcasters respond to increasingly complex operational requirements,” said Marc Bruce, CEO of Encompass Digital Media.
The companies say the model is intended to address increasing scheduling complexity as broadcasters distribute programming across linear television, streaming, FAST and on-demand services.
