Slovakia has completed the transition of its nationwide digital terrestrial television network to DVB-T2 following the conversion of the country’s third multiplex.

Towercom switched MUX 3 to DVB-T2 on September 22, affecting viewers of public broadcaster STVR’s Jednotka, Dvojka, 24 and Šport services.

The change means that all four of Slovakia’s nationwide terrestrial multiplexes now use the second-generation transmission standard.

MUX 1 and MUX 4 were already operating in DVB-T2, while MUX 2 was converted from DVB-T on April 14, 2026. That left the public-service MUX 3 as the last nationwide network using the original DVB-T standard.

The September conversion had been anticipated in a new distribution agreement between STVR and Towercom announced in July. The agreement committed the public broadcaster’s multiplex to migrate to DVB-T2 by the end of September while maintaining free terrestrial availability of its four television services to around 95% of the population.

Viewers using terrestrial reception may need to retune their television or set-top box following the change. Older receivers without DVB-T2 support will no longer be able to receive the multiplex. The transition increases the available capacity of the network. According to technical reporting following the conversion, MUX 3’s capacity has increased from approximately 19.9 Mbit/s to 33.4 Mbit/s, potentially providing room for additional services or improvements in picture quality.
