CANAL+ Chief Technology Officer Stéphane Baumier has been appointed Chairman of the Supervisory Board of cybersecurity and content protection company Irdeto.
Baumier, who is also a member of the CANAL+ Executive Committee, will support Irdeto’s growth strategy and work to strengthen technological synergies between the Netherlands-based company and the wider CANAL+ group.
Irdeto provides cybersecurity services for digital platforms and content protection, with its technology protecting more than six billion devices worldwide. It operates across more than 75 countries.
CANAL+ said Baumier’s appointment comes as piracy, fraud and cybercrime increasingly affect content creation and the wider media economy, with Irdeto continuing to develop its business internationally.
Baumier joined CANAL+ in 2000 and has spent much of his career working internationally. His roles have included positions in the Caribbean, Senegal and La Réunion, before helping establish the K+ pay-TV business in Vietnam.
Between 2013 and 2017 he headed CANAL+ subsidiaries in Madagascar, Côte d’Ivoire and Vietnam, markets where the company says he gained experience of operating in environments heavily exposed to content piracy. He became CEO of K+ in 2017.
Baumier was appointed CANAL+ Transformation Executive Vice President in 2021 and became Chief Technology Officer in 2022.
