WST Play launches on connected TV
September 30, 2026
World Snooker Tour (WST) is accelerating the growth of its direct-to-consumer streaming platform WST Play with the launch of its first connected TV apps.
WST Play is now available as a dedicated app on Android TV and Amazon Fire TV, with Samsung Smart TV to follow, marking a key step in WST’s strategy to develop its direct relationship with fans and expand the global reach of the sport. The new connected TV apps have been developed in partnership with technology company Urban Zoo, who built the WST Play platform.
WST has also expanded the platform’s content offering, adding more than 3,000 hours of archive footage alongside the connected TV launch.
WST Play provides a global streaming destination for snooker fans, complementing WST’s network of broadcast partners. In territories where an event does not have a television broadcaster, subscribers can watch live coverage through WST Play, including the sport’s biggest tournaments such as the World Championship, UK Championship and Masters. Fans worldwide outside China can also watch qualifying events live with commentary. In the UK, WST Play subscribers have access to live coverage of table one from the Home Nations events as well as the Shoot Out.
The platform combines live sport with a growing archive, giving subscribers on-demand access to thousands of hours of snooker content.
Tom Rowell, WST Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, commented: “The growth of WST Play since its launch has demonstrated the huge global appetite for snooker and for greater access to our sport. Having subscribers across 154 countries shows the international reach of snooker and the opportunity we have to build a direct relationship with fans all over the world. The launch of connected TV is a major step forward. We want WST Play to be a world-class destination for snooker, whether fans are watching live tournaments, qualifying events or exploring our extensive archive. Our traditional broadcast partnerships remain hugely important to us, while WST Play gives us the opportunity to complement that coverage and make more snooker available to more fans around the world.”
Matt Mckiernan, Chief Operating Officer at Urban Zoo, added: “We’re thrilled to see WST Play launch on connected TV, building on our wider partnership with WST across web, app and streaming. It’s been fantastic to see the service grow, and bringing live and on-demand snooker directly to fans’ TVs is another big step forward. We’re proud of what we’ve built together, and there’s plenty more to come.”
