Vodafone TV launches with Netflix and HBO Max bundle

Vodafone has launched its new UK television service, combining Freely, streaming apps, live channels and cloud gaming through a new 4K Android TV set-top box.

Vodafone TV is available to customers with a Vodafone mobile or broadband plan. The standalone service costs £10 per month, while Vodafone TV Essential costs £17 per month and includes Netflix and HBO Max.

The platform is built around Freely, the IP delivered platform backed by Britain’s public service broadcasters, the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5.

Customers can download apps including Prime Video, Disney+, Spotify and DAZN through Google Play, while Vodafone’s Subscription+ service allows subscriptions to be managed on a 30-day rolling basis.

The compact set-top box runs Android TV and has 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, with support for 4K, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on compatible content. It also provides access to more than 300 cloud games, which can be played using a smartphone or Bluetooth controller.

Vodafone is introducing personalised profiles alongside a My TV and Apps area and what it describes as Smart AI Search. A companion app extends viewing outside the home.

Customers combining Vodafone Entertainment mobile plans with Vodafone TV Essential can create a Vodafone TV Ultimate package, adding either Disney+ or Prime for £25.50 per month.

Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director at VodafoneThree, said households were increasingly having to juggle “multiple apps, long channel bundles and services they often don’t use”.

“Vodafone TV gives customers a smarter alternative: one simple, intuitive experience that brings their favourite entertainment together,” he said.

Vodafone is also using the launch to target customers of rival broadband and television services, offering up to £300 towards early termination charges for customers switching both services.

As a launch promotion, new customers taking Vodafone Pro Broadband before October 28 will receive Vodafone TV Essential, including Netflix and HBO Max, at no additional cost for the first 24 months of their broadband contract.

Vodafone TV is available directly from Vodafone and through Currys stores across the UK.
