Canal+ launching free Sport+ platform

French broadcaster Canal+ is rolling out Sport+, a new, free platform dedicated to sports, on October 9th.

The ad-supported service will be directly accessible from the Canal+ app, which already aggregates the group’s paid content and a number of third-party offerings. Designed with mobile viewing in mind, Sport+ will feature a feed of vertical sports videos, although which specific sports will be covered has yet to be revealed.


“Sport+ will be the only app on the market offering so much content with sports rights. It’s aimed at all audiences, whether they’re subscribers or not,” said Thomas Sénécal, Director of Sports at Canal+, speaking to French daily Le Figaro.

“This is a very strong demand from sports fans that no other offering on the market currently meets,” added Églantine Leclabart, Global Marketing Director for Canal+ Pay-TV.
