The HbbTV Association has welcomed Admongrel, Konodrac, NIQ, TVekstra and wedotv, taking its membership to 65 following the introduction of new membership categories.

The association described the additions as its strongest intake in several years. The companies bring expertise in audience measurement, data analytics, advertising technology and FAST channels, broadening participation beyond its traditional base of broadcasters, television manufacturers and platform operators.

The growth follows approval of Small Member and Associate Member categories at the association’s General Assembly on June 12.

Small Membership is available to companies with annual revenues of up to €3 million. It provides the same rights and access as Full Membership, including participation in working groups, with the exception of Steering Group participation.

Associate Membership is aimed at organisations outside the traditional HbbTV market seeking involvement in specific applications. Members can access association resources and participate in or chair its new Application Interest Groups.

Three groups have been established, covering audience measurement, advanced advertising, and identity and consent. Their work will explore measurement across broadcast and IP services, advertising in linear and on-demand environments, and approaches to identity management and user consent.

HbbTV Chair Vincent Grivet said the response to the new structure had exceeded expectations and anticipated further growth as the groups begin their work.

Wedotv CEO and co-founder Philipp Rotermund said HbbTV enables the company to operate a pan-European service across different markets, platforms and devices. NIQ said it would contribute its measurement expertise to help develop interoperable approaches across connected television.

The association’s 14th HbbTV Symposium & Awards takes place in Barcelona on November 18–19, co-hosted with Catalan public media corporation 3Cat.
