Apple has announced its fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, adding conversational search, hands-free voice control and hardware AV1 decoding.

The streaming device costs £299 in the UK, with pre-orders open ahead of availability on November 13.

Its A19 processor includes a dedicated AV1 decoder for more efficient streaming. Apple claims CPU performance is up to 50% faster and graphics performance up to twice that of the previous generation.

Three built-in microphones enable hands-free control, while Siri AI supports conversational programme discovery and follow-up questions during viewing.

“With Siri AI, finding something to watch becomes a full-screen, conversational experience,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing.

Siri AI will also support second-generation and later Apple TV 4K devices. The beta requires compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled hardware and software, with English-language availability including the UK.

The new model supports four-speaker surround sound using HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePod speakers in matching front and rear pairs.

An updated Siri Remote adds Precision Finding with compatible iPhones and an audible locator.
