GAA+ is rolling out redesigned streaming apps across mobile and connected TV platforms, with Simplestream delivering an updated interface and the first phase of accessibility improvements.
The Gaelic games service’s new apps feature a full-screen, video-led homepage, faster loading and revised navigation. Search has also been upgraded with real-time and predictive results to help viewers find matches and highlights.
Accessibility additions include screen reader support across navigation and content, voice guidance for non-visible titles, and support for subtitles and audio description where supplied. An accessibility statement is available through the app settings.
Noel Quinn, Head of GAA+, said customer feedback had shaped the changes.
“Gaelic games are for all, and we’re delighted to be improving the accessibility of the GAA+ service with the help of our partner Simplestream,” he said. “Customer feedback has guided our approach, and our new apps and launch of live stream subtitles are a big step forward for the service.”
The apps are rolling out across iOS, Android, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, and Samsung and LG smart TVs. Further accessibility functionality is planned as part of the companies’ continuing partnership.
Dan Finch, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer at Simplestream, said: “Getting accessibility right matters to us, and this is just the first phase of that work.”
GAA+ is the Gaelic Athletic Association’s official streaming service, providing live and on-demand coverage of Gaelic games.
